When we workout, we do not just suffer from muscle sprain or body pain. There are some other health problems that we might face while we workout. For instance, you can hardly imagine getting a headache after workout! Most of the gym freaks often suffer from headache post workout. Commonly known as exercise induced headaches (EIH), it occurs after a strenuous workout. 

There are two types of exercise headache; primary (which is not very serious) and secondary (which can be a sign of brain disorder like tumour). Running, swimming, treadmill and weightlifting are few exercises that can cause post-gym headache. Dehydration is one of the most common causes of post gym headache. Even improper exercise technique can lead to headache. However, exercise induced headaches are more common among body builders. This is because they lift heavy weights which exerts a lot of pressure on the brain. This in turn leads to headache. 

Moreover, if you do not warm up before hard core exercise, it can lead to exercise induced headaches. Post gym headache can spoil your day completely and popping pills also doesn't always work. On the other hand, taking pills regularly can be really unhealthy. So, here are few natural ways to deal with post gym headache.


It is very important to get proper sleep. Sleeping too much or less can also induce headache. At least eight hours of sleep is recommended by experts to avoid headache.

Are you drinking a cup of coffee before hitting the gym? This can be one of the causes of headache post workout. And if you think that drinking coffee can trigger headache post workout, then perish the thought! Caffeine increases headache once the effect of the hot beverage is reduced.

Migraine often causes headache after a strenuous workout. If you suffer from migraine and the headache occurs, it is time to consult a doctor. Heavy weight lifting or too much of strenuous exercise can lead to headache.

If you are tensed or stressed out before the workout, there are more chances for you to develop headache post workout. One of the natural ways to reduce workout induced headache is, be tension free.
